This is a translation of Tafsīr as-Saʿdī as IslamHouse.com publishes it at saadi.islamenc.com, read from that site’s pages. ثُمَّ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔوا۟ ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓ أَن كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُوا۟ بِهَا يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ 10
(10) ﴾ ثُمَّ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَٰٓـُٔواْ ﴿ "Kemudian, akibat orang-orang yang mengerjakan kejahatan" maksudnya, orang-orang yang berbuat keja-hatan, ﴾ ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓ ﴿ "adalah yang lebih buruk," yakni keadaan yang buruk lagi sangat keji, dan hal itu mendorong mereka untuk ﴾ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَانُواْ بِهَا يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ﴿ "mendustakan ayat-ayat Allah dan mereka selalu memperolok-oloknya." Ini adalah hukuman terhadap kejahatan dan dosa-dosa mereka. Kemudian perolok-olokan dan pendustaan itu menjadi sebab bagi munculnya siksaan yang lebih besar dan lebih mengenaskan.
