Each passage stands beside the verses it comments on, which are the Qur’ān text of Tanzil, shown as it is there. وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ ۖ وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ 198
(p-٣٠٧)قَوْلُهُ تَعالى: ﴿وَإنْ تَدْعُوهم إلى الهُدى لا يَسْمَعُوا﴾ في المُرادِ بِهَؤُلاءِ قَوْلانِ.
أحَدُهُما: أنَّهُمُ الأصْنامُ. ثُمَّ في قَوْلِهِ: ﴿وَتَراهم يَنْظُرُونَ إلَيْكَ﴾ قَوْلانِ. أحَدُهُما يُواجِهُونَكَ، تَقُولُ العَرَبُ: دارِي تَنْظُرُ إلى دارِكَ، ﴿وَهم لا يُبْصِرُونَ﴾ لِأنَّهُ لَيْسَ فِيهِمْ أرْواحٌ. والثّانِي: وتَراهم كَأنَّهم يَنْظُرُونَ إلَيْكَ، لِأنَّ لَهم أعْيُنًا مَصْنُوعَةً، فَأسْقَطَ كافَ التَّشْبِيهِ، كَقَوْلِهِ: ﴿وَتَرى النّاسَ سُكارى﴾ [الحَجِّ:٢] أيْ: كَأنَّهم سُكارى، ﴿وَهم لا يُبْصِرُونَ﴾ في الحَقِيقَةِ. وإنَّما أخْبَرَ عَنْهم بِالهاءِ والمِيمِ، لِأنَّهم عَلى هَيْئَةِ بَنِي آَدَمَ،
والقَوْلُ الثّانِي: أنَّهُمُ المُشْرِكُونَ، فالمَعْنى: وتَراهم يَنْظُرُونَ إلَيْكَ بِأعْيُنِهِمْ ولا يُبْصِرُونَ بِقُلُوبِهِمْ.
